2024 Recap

Recap, yes. I'm already tired of all this myself.

Largely the mood is absent due to some extremely unpleasant cold, from which I can't normally recover for the second week. Even the brain functions with some interruptions. Never noticed before that it would be so dumb as now during illness. And this pretty much sums up the whole of '24. By the feeling at the end - the year was crappy, if not more, but we continue to resist. I'll try to remember something good.

At work the slowdown of explosive development is already perceived as something negative. Although this is a logical result of the fact that we just fixed ourselves at a good level, many felt confidence and started taking on big projects, which of course drag on and are perceived in the moment as routine without visible result. Here we note cautious optimism and hope that a couple of long-term builds will still make it to prod in the coming months and there will be something to flex with. And I myself have a lot of thoughts and conclusions on this background that I'm itching to share.

In parallel this year for me the main achievement is socialization. Spoke at the two largest IT conferences in Kazakhstan, our Beetech and not ours Kolesa Conf. Returned to Podlodka Android Crew, unexpectedly for myself even in the role of speaker once. And can't help but mention our offline meetups neural network party nullptr.party, shoutout to Ilya, Ivan and many others who participated in them. Largely thanks to them this year I managed to sync my perception of the surrounding world with reality, meet a lot of people.

But this is all IT stuff. After all, the channel here is named after me, not specific technologies. I'd like to dilute it with something from normal life, milestones from which are usually on Instagram. Less than a dozen concerts and festivals visited in a year for a person who was used to counting them by the dozens - this is something completely new. Although there were good ones, let's record such as Trinadtsat Karat, Hadn Dadn, Green Apelsin, Aigel and Teni Svobody. However next year there are plans to return to the big game like in the best years.

But music this year, by the way, without concerts didn't become less, it became more. Catching up on the year, filling playlists and forming in my head the year's results with the most favorite, will share. We learned to quite stably turn this knowledge into victories at music pub quizzes about all kinds of rock. This can probably be recorded as the hobby of the year, although we started back in the last one. Also a pretty nice crowd literally organized before our eyes. It's amazing that literally any marginal hobby of yours these days can work and convert into something. At least into some emotions.

Purchase of the year, undoubtedly, Steam Deck. I've never held such a delightful device in terms of money in my hands. It seems to me we've generally forgotten so much that people can develop products for people that this is perceived as simply incredible. Valve both technically did something impossible with their Proton, and purely product-wise, giving us terrible variability of what you can do with it. When you can after work switch the hub from MacBook to Deck and launch Windows Hearthstone on a big screen under its Linux, with all the working peripherals and Discord running in parallel. What, damn, kind of miracle is this? Why does this even work and why aren't they shouting about it on every corner?

I'd like to play the aforementioned Hearthstone less next year, otherwise it's really become like an addiction. Damn duo mode that appeared this year. In the new year I'm making a big bet on more aggressive development and hope for my own courage, which will help solve many questions.

You here have also become twice as many as a year earlier, which I'm very glad about. ✏️

Happy New Year! 🎉 I hope the year will be well at least a tiny bit better, otherwise how much more can we take? 🥂
