October 18. Kolesa Conf '24

October 18. Kolesa Conf '24

My life goal disappeared for a while, spoke yesterday at Kolesa's conference. Being first in the schedule should have been quite stressful, but in fact it seems to be a very advantageous position. People just arrived at the conference, came in and filled all the seats, no one is wandering back and forth through the door, no one is yet distracted by other activities, everyone pretends they came for the talks. Well, plus myself, I was nervous the first half hour of the conference, and then I was calm, just immediately tired.

However, this time, unlike previous talks I wasn't very worried. The audience for the mobile track was smaller than previous engineering track venues like DevFest or Beetech, so it felt calmer. And honestly, I had more confidence in myself. I especially want to note the headset microphones, first time speaking with one, absolutely great, with a handheld one you always have to remember how to hold it, it takes extra effort, plus it varies a lot from person to person.

To my surprise, for the first time in all rehearsals I fit perfectly into the timing. This miracle happens every time specifically at the venue, but never at home. I'm happy with my speech and presentation overall, definitely the best of all mine, though in the end I spent a lot of time on them. I'm already tired of the topic myself, of the presentation, of its design. A clear sign that I held on to it too long.

If I compare, I liked speaking here better, I liked the talks better here, a purely mobile track is a wonderful rarity. When almost a hundred pure mobile developers are listening to you it's a different level. But from an organizational point of view I liked our Beetech more. University assembly and lecture halls obviously suit presentations better than a banquet complex. Looks expensive and rich, with suede and monograms, but not very comfortable. The tech at other talks let down a bit, due to the single-level rows of chairs it wasn't always possible to see the screens behind people's heads, the queue at the entrance at the start because of which not everyone made it in for the first talks. And overall it's as if the venue is too small for one and a half thousand visitors. These are the minuses.

One way or another, huge thanks to the organizers for holding the conference, and for giving the opportunity to speak in a cool lineup. And respect to all colleagues from Beeline who came to support even without always understanding the content. Hello to everyone who subscribed here after the talk! ❤️

And about the talks read at Ivan's. I disappeared for a few hours after mine to various discussions in expert zones and chill.

PS. The general afterparty turned out a bit sparse, which however didn't prevent us from finally having a calm chat. And I unfortunately or fortunately didn't make it to the speakers' party) The video and photos are promised soon. Stole the live photo with me from the local mobile broadcast, there are no others yet.
