Salam aleikum from Dubai. The first week of vacation is coming to an end, the rest is going according to plan so far, awesome.
I think I last "vacationed" like this about six years ago, for more than a week and not at home.
The choice fell on Dubai due to a bunch of factors, but primarily because we're not very experienced tourists and wanted a hybrid of sea, attractions and civilization in one place.
A week later it became clear, honestly, that there's almost no point in going to the sea if you have a pool on the hotel roof) The infrastructure of beach recreation here is so-so, despite huge crowds of people, but the hotel infrastructure is excellent. 🤟
The attractions are awesome. The Dubai Eye and the Palm have left the biggest impressions so far. They're so unreasonably huge that they don't even fit in your head when you look at them.
Comparably, the prices don't fit in your head either, though this was quite expected.
The whole beginning of the week was spent learning to parse the Indian accent that the absolute majority communicates with here.
Including for this reason, our first week is beachy and chill. In the second we're moving to downtown to be even more amazed by the scale.
The attempt not to think about work is also going successfully, but it's quite difficult not to notice the news. I hope everything stabilizes in a week and we get home to Atu normally.
